First team experiences

Last week was fairly productive as I managed to get the first of my new teams, 4 druids, to 81 since the RAF xp bonus works all the way through level 80 rather than stopping there as expected with a total played time of ~48 hours. The played time is a good bit of news as it means that if I focus I should be able to get one team a week done if I don’t waste time on the weekends and since I only have 5 more teams to level up, assuming I get the DK’s from 66 to 81 this week, I should be able to get everything done long before RAF runs out.

After the break I’ll go into some details that I discovered regarding boosting during the experience that will hopefully help others in a similar situation.

Initially I had to grind through the Worgen starting zone as you can’t port them out from there until it’s finished, doing this had the team at level 20 by the time they hit Darnassus so from there I ported them to Stormwind and boosted them through Stockades. One thing I decided during this phase is that the quests in the instance are essentially free xp so I will stay in an instance until the team is high enough level to get the quests, do them and then decide whether to move to the next instance based on how quickly or slowly they are continuing to level.

My leveling process was pretty much as follows:

  • Level 20 – Boost through stockades until ~level 27. With non-worgens you can probably start here from level 15 and leave once you do the quests. You can leave team at entrance and pull first corridor down to first boss and they will still be in range for xp, as long as you pull the boss out of the room and to the hall intersection. After he’s dead move team down to intersection and pull either fire or Hogger hall, they have essentially the same xp range as first hall so you need to pull boss room+ out to hall for team to get XP, or you can move teams down to just outside boss room, etiehr way will work.
  • Level 26 – Scarlet Monastry time. Do graveyard once to clear quest then grind armory and cathedral to level 30. Do library once for quests then continue to grind armory and cathedral till 40. With GY and Library just keep team following you and let them range-agro mobs to you. Armory you can leave them at entry to clear first courtyard then have them following you to the first boss, leave them outside his room, clear it then repeat to Herod. With cathedral leave the team parked just before the arch into the courtyard and then just go pull or clear as you want. I usually start from the right hand side, work my way back to the left then up to the next level, clear to the right and then enter the cathedral. Run in, agro Morgraine and pull back to the wall just beside the doors and kill anything that moves until Whitemane spawns, kill her and Morgraine again and then go pull Fairbanks back to the door and kill. As long as you don’t kill mobs past the second pillar in the cathedral your team will get xp
  • Level 40 – Scholomance. Leave team at entry and go clear, they will get full xp.
  • Level 45 – Stratholme. Will have to clear, move team up, repeat for both live and dead sides here. Just keep killing until you see the team not get xp and move them up, repeat.
  • Level 49 – UBRS. Clear the first area from the entry and move team up to bridge. Leave them on bridge and go clear instance, they’ll get full xp.
  • Level 58 – Hellfire Ramparts. Leave team at entry, clear instance, they get all xp. Only thing to watch here is Nazen will often launch fire at them if you don’t kill it quickly enough so keep an eye on them and move as needed.
  • Level 63 – Setthekk Halls. Leave team at entry until you kill first boss, move them to his room and leave them there to get full xp for the instance.
  • Level 66 – Steamvaults. Leave at entry, clear first room and pathway up to next area including pathers. Move team to here, kill first boss then have team on follow, park before next room, clear, have follow, park before bridge/path to second boss, kill then back to last boss door. Park team outside door, kill boss, repeat instance.
  • Level 68 – Utgarde Keep. Will need to do a clear/follow routine here as didn’t test xp range of instance.
UK will take you through to level 72/73 depending on how long you want to go at it, you can also mix in Nexus if you like but I found it easier to stay in one spot. After UK it will depend on how geared your booster is and I haven’t tested but for the next team I am going to test going with Gundrak till 76 and then either HoL or UP to 80. I would suggest going through and testing if you can solo the instance with your booster before taking a team there though.
The other option of course is to just quest with the team from 72 to 80 in Northrend, which was the route I took with the druids and found that the collection quests weren’t as bad as I was dreading when I got them. It took me about 10 hours to quest through to 80 with the added benefit of a major cash boost from the questing that I was missing out on from boosting. When I hit Northrend I had to send the team all enough gold to buy CWF, by the time I hit 80 I was able to repay that money, get old-world flying and have about 1k on each character so I’m almost tempted to say it’s worth the slightly extra time to quest rather than boost from 72 if you aren’t uber-rich but if you aren’t that worried about gold then boosting will likely be your best option.
Overall this has been the best work-flow I have found in my time for leveling as quickly as possible though I have heard of a new mob-grinding spot that might be quicker, so if you’re looking to level some teams up I hope this provides you with some help and possible inspiration.
