Final Fantasy 14

FF14 low-level LancerSo have spent the last few days playing FF14: ARR now that WoW has almost left my system and am enjoying it from an old-school JRPG point of view, it feels like a Final Fantasy game crossed with vanilla Everquest with the lack of handholding that the game provides. I know it won’t take long until everything is known and optimal leveling and combat is worked out but for now it’s nice to have to actually thing and just play the game as you want without worrying about optimal efficiency.

Last night introduced me to how many ways there are to spend time in the game and how easy it is to be distracted unless you remain focused on what your goals are for the day.

I logged in to get some levels on my lancer and do my level 10 class quest (at level 12, I’d forgotten it and love that there was no reminder) so I did but then I figured since I was in Girandia and now able to start crafting I’d look into the mechanics of it. As you can see by looking at my classes I proceeded to get 3 crafting classes and leveled them to the point of clearing out the first rank of crafting journal for leatherworking and carpentry.

About the time I was feeling ok with understanding the mechanics and was about to get back to leveling my lancer I looked at the time and saw it was almost time to log-off for the night and I was quite ok with that….just sitting for a few hours leveling crafting still felt like I accomplished something.

What it showed me though was that every time I log in to the game I need to have a clear focus on what I want to achieve for the day (leveling class/job or crafting or exploring or instances) and make sure to stick to that and not get distracted by something else. Other things will always be in the game but if you don’t stay focused on one task at a time you’ll spend a lot more time getting to end game than enjoying it there and who really wants that in the end?
